Published on: November 8, 2010

Winder-Barrow Community Theatre is excited to announce the upcoming production of “Fruitcakes” by Julian Wiles. This family friendly show is a special Christmas event for children and adults of all ages. It will be presented on December 3rd & 4th at 7:30 pm and on December 5th at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $5.00 for children up to age 12, and ages 13 and up are $10.00. Purchase tickets by credit card at Winder City Hall (770-867-3106) or by cash or check at Pam Veader’s State Farm Insurance office at 41 S. Center Street in Winder (770-867-1679). There is a $3.00 service charge for credit card orders made over the phone.

Mix together a batch of fruitcakes, three dozen Christmas trees, 10,000 outdoor Christmas lights, a chicken pox epidemic, two southern spinsters, an estranged old man, a lost cat named Tutti Fruitti and a Christmas hog named Buster, and you've got the recipe for a fun filled and touching evening filled with holiday cheer. Into this world comes Jamie, a kid who has run away from home and come as far as his money will take him. At first he thinks this town's inhabitants are "nuttier than fruitcakes," but soon he comes to admire, appreciate and adore this nutty little town. A moving story of alienation, understanding and reconciliation, "FrUiTCaKeS" provides audiences with a heaping helping of holiday warmth and Christmas cheer.

This production is being funded in part by a grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts through the office of the Governor. A donation will also be made to the Barrow County Family Connections project to provide Christmas gifts to needy children. You are encouraged to bring an additional donation or an unwrapped new toy for the children.

As a part of the program, the Quartermasters will be singing Christmas songs before the show, and Mr. & Mrs. Santa will be at the reception at the end of the show so children can talk to Santa or have their picture made. Come and join the fun as the Christmas Season starts. Get your tickets early in order to guarantee a seat.
